June 2007 - 12 Signs of a Spiritual Awakening

In your quest to improve the quality of your life, are you nurturing your spiritual self? You may be working on creating many positive new behaviors and habits, such as eating healthier and even thinking more positive thoughts, but if you are ignoring your spiritual self, you are not addressing the whole you.  Pierre Teilhard de Chardin (May 1, 1881 – April 10, 1955) a Jesuit Priest, Paleontologist and philosopher is quoted as saying:

“We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.”

This brings to mind the question of what and who we may ultimately be, and that is a spiritual being.

The 12 Signs of a Spiritual Awakening

1. An increased tendency to let thing happen rather than make them happen.

2. Frequent attacks of smiling.

3. Feelings of being connected with others and nature.

4. Frequent overwhelming episodes of appreciation.

5. A tendency to think and act spontaneously rather than from fears based on past experiences.

6. An unmistakable ability to enjoy each moment.

7. A loss of ability to worry.

8. A loss of interest in conflict

9. A loss of interest in interpreting the actions of others.

10. A loss of interest in judging others.

11. A loss of interest in judging self.

12. Gaining the ability to love without expecting anything in return.

In reference to the 1st sign above,  there is a big difference between just letting things happen, as in allowing others to disrespect or take advantage of you, and that of letting go of the need to control situations or other people. When you can let go of the need to control or prove you’re right, you truly are learning to release to the moment and to the flow of life. There is a saying that what we resist persists. Like wise, when we can truly let go, we create less resistance, and in that shift of consciousness there lies a beautiful window of opportunity for drawing to us what we desire, not to mention a greater sense of inner peace.
