January 2015 - Stop Dieting & Lose Weight - 11 Signs of Diet Backlash

Back to Newsletter

It’s 2015 and you’ve made another resolution to lose weight. You’ve just found another diet that might
work - this time. You know you’ve tried just about every diet under the sun and failed miserably. But maybe this time it will be different. Sound familiar?

Stop dieting and lose weight sounds counter-intuitive, but the fact is diets don’t work. You might lose the weight if you’re lucky, but did you actually maintain your healthy new weight? If you didn’t maintain it, then your diet didn’t really work, did it? Discover what really works.

What does work is being in tune with your body and your emotional needs. You intuitively do know what to eat and how to take care of yourself; but all your many failed diets have left you completely disconnected from your body, your natural instinct and innate knowledge.

Here’s some facts you need to know about why dieting doesn’t work:

  • Forbidden foods seem to taste better and you want more
  • Dieting can slow metabolism
  • Dieting causes obsessions with food
  • If you use food as a coping mechanism your diet is sure to fail
  • Dieters often lose touch with natural body signals in an attempt to override fullness or hunger
  • Dieting can make food the enemy

11 Signs of Diet Backlash

If you’ve tried one failed diet after another you may be suffering from Diet Backlash. There are negative accumulative side effects from dieting and these side affects may be short term or long term depending on how long you’ve been dieting.

  • You’re eating less food yet you’re not losing.
  • The mere contemplation of going on another diet brings on urges & cravings for fattening food.
  • One study found that 49% of all people who end a diet binge on food.
  • Failure of dieting taught you to not trust your body or the food you put in it.
  • Feeling you don’t deserve to eat because you’re overweight.
  • With each diet you try, the duration you’re willing to give it shortens.
  • Every new diet is proceeded by consuming foods you assume you won’t be allowed to eat again; so food consumption goes up during this time like “The Last Supper”.
  • You’ve socially withdrawn from parties or going out to dinner just to stay in control of your diet. (How long do you think that approach will work until you feel deprived and isolated?)
  • Dieting slows down your metabolism. Each diet teaches your body to adapt better for the next self-imposed famine.
  • You often abuse coffee & diet drinks as management tools to feel energetic & filled up when underfed.
  • Dieting can lead to eating disorders ranging from anorexia or bulimia to compulsive eating.

Many of my clients tell me they went on their first diet as a child because they had a mother who was dieting who projected her food insecurities on them.

The fact is as long as you are engaged in some form of dieting, you won’t be free from food or body image issues.

As a Clinical Hypnotherapist, my job is to help you get back in touch with your natural knowing inside, to assist you in trusting yourself and your body. Hypnotherapy is a fast and permanent way to release unhealthy food habits, allowing you to eat naturally and intuitively, a natural ability you were born with.

In next month’s newsletter I will share a simple process you can do to help you actually dialogue with your body. That’s right; you can ask your body what it needs or wants to support your natural weight loss and your body will talk to you. All you need to do is listen to its wisdom.

When would you like to release the diet madness and get started with healthy, natural intuitive eating? You can do it. Happy New Year!
